It is widely accepted a lack of access to proper sanitation facilities poses a huge barrier to education as children frequently miss school due to hygiene-related diseases. Toilets and proper washing station can help stop the spread of many diseases and parasites such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid.
The toilet facilities at the Presby school in its current state are not fit purpose, they have become old and unsafe for the pupils to continue to use. It is for this reason that KAIA has opted, as its maiden project to build new cost-effective lavatories for the school.
The land has been acquired, the design and tentative costings for block casting and other building materials duly made and secured. The foundation is laid and the building is progressing smoothly as expected and it is envisaged the entire project will be done and dusted at least by December 2022.
KAIA envisions the high quality of the lavatory facilities will be crucial to the children’s health and well-being and also have a positive influence on the pupils’ willingness and ability to learn, their behaviour, moral and attendance levels.
